Engage & Expand Your Horizons at Riverside Prep

Riverside Prep offers a robust variety of extracurricular clubs, organizations, and activities for cadets to participate in. Participation in student groups provides opportunities for cadets to get to know each other while pursuing common interests outside of the classroom. These programs also offer ways for cadets to develop their confidence, leadership skills, and character in settings beyond the classroom.

While optional, Riverside encourages all our cadets to choose a few of these ways to get involved, meet new friends, try new things, challenge themselves, and develop their areas of interest and passion.

Below is a list of some of the many opportunities available to cadets in a typical year at Riverside Prep.

Clubs, Activities & Community Service

Joining clubs and activities enhances your overall experience at Riverside Prep. They provide cadets with engaging ways to develop leadership skills, teamwork, and personal interests – helping them to become well-rounded individuals. These experiences will serve them well for a lifetime and may even help expand their resume when applying for post-secondary and future jobs.

  • Civil Air Patrol

As a Riverside cadet, you can serve simultaneously as a member of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP). The CAP was founded in 1941, to mobilize the nation's civilian aviation resources for national defense service. CAP has evolved into a premier public service organization that still carries out emergency service missions when needed – in the air and on the ground.

As a Total Force partner and Auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, Civil Air Patrol is there to search for and find the lost, provide comfort in times of disaster, and work to keep the homeland safe. Its 56,000 members selflessly devote their time, energy, and expertise toward the well-being of their communities, while also promoting aviation and related fields through aerospace/STEM education and helping shape future leaders through CAP’s cadet program. Today’s CAP adults and cadets serve nearly 1,500 communities nationwide.
  • JROTC Teams

Riverside's Army JROTC teams include the Air Rifle Team, Color Guard, Drill Team (Fusiliers), and Raider Team.

Sponsored by the United States Armed Forces, JROTC programs are an excellent way for cadets to learn about citizenship, service to their country, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment. The program combines challenging academic content with authentic learning experiences and co-curricular activities – some of which include opportunities to compete against other cadets from across the country.

  • Peer Tutoring Volunteers

Peer tutors are cadets who assist as academic leaders and tutors in the dormitory. They are selected for these important roles on the basis of scholarship and character.
  • Raider Training

The main objective of the Raider Training Program is weight loss achieved through proper nutrition and functional fitness.
The program consists of three pillars:

Pillar 1 is Nutrition. We encourage participants to make healthy choices that are appropriately portioned when they are on their own and serve healthy, alternate meals (no fried foods, low-carb, etc.) for breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the week.

Pillar 2 is Fitness. This pillar is maintained by an organized and supervised fitness program that is age-appropriate, challenging, fun, and effective. Each day during GSA, participants engage in a variety of high-intensity interval training, cardio, and weight-lifting routines. The program has purchased $1,500 of new equipment such as battle ropes, wall-balls, slam-balls, kettlebells, and gymnastics rings to augment the equipment in the Barracks Weight Room; this purchase was made possible by a program grant funded by Walmart.

Pillar 3 is Accountability. Pillar 3 consists of twice-weekly weigh-ins, personal goal setting, and TAC/Parent involvement. The desired end-state is that the participants lose weight, attribute their success to hard work and simple principles, and that the lessons they've learned become part of a lifestyle change that will endure beyond their time in the program.
  • Weight Training

The weight training club's purpose is to educate and mentor cadets on all aspects of fitness and wellness including physical, mental, social, and emotional wellness. Cadets receive guidance and coaching on nutrition, weight training, cardiovascular, CrossFit, flexibility, and various aspects of comprehensive fitness. Participants will also receive training and nutrition guidance from certified personal trainers and professional competitors in the fitness industry.

Co-Curricular Clubs & Organizations

Riverside cadets are invited to learn beyond traditional classrooms through our co-curricular programs. These additional opportunities allow participants to develop new skills that can be applied to their other classes – and throughout their lives.

They also learn how to use publishing software. Cadets then work with a faculty advisor to compile, edit, and publish an annual Riverside yearbook called the Bayonet.

The skills learned by participating in our yearbook program help our cadets develop new passions and areas of interest while learning skills that could be applied to a future career.
  • Eagle News Network - Video Production

Eagle News Network (ENN) is the signature piece of Riverside’s award-winning Audio/Video Production program. In this program, students work together as the crew for Riverside’s monthly online news program.
