John Douglas Bassett - 1955

He started in the business while in high school before entering Riverside and has worked in various roles for over 53 years, first at Bassett Furniture Industries and since 1983 at Vaughan-Bassett Furniture Company. John has been president and CEO and presently serves as Chairman of Vaughan-Bassett. He is the subject of the New York Times bestseller, Factory Man: How One Furniture Maker Battled Offshoring, Stayed Local – And Helped Save An American Town, published in 2014. He is also the author of Making It in America, published in 2016. Vaughan-Bassett is today the largest wooden bedroom furniture manufacturer in the United States with 100 percent of the products made in the United States. In October 2013 he was inducted into the American Furniture Hall of Fame
