Riverside Branding FAQs

Why are you marketing as Riverside Preparatory Academy?

As you have experienced at Riverside, we are a private boarding school that uses the military model of education for success. Unfortunately, there are misperceptions around the use of the term “military school.” One such misperception is that military schools exist to train young men to enter the military or a service academy. While we are very proud of our graduates who choose a military career, most Riverside graduates enter college and non-military careers. Another misperception is that military schools are for delinquent minors. Our admissions team is selective (65% acceptance rate as of May 2022) in terms of recruiting students with good behavior as well as academic acuity, which allows for a more robust learning environment for your student.  In essence, we will market Riverside Preparatory Academy to attract a broader range of mission-appropriate prospective students.

How was this name selected, and will the name accurately represent the Academy? Were other names considered?

You may have noticed the use of “Riverside Academy” in our mission statement. This name was approved for use by the Board of Trustees approximately three years ago in preparation for possible use in a rebranding endeavor. While that name, along with Riverside Leadership Academy, were considered during our rebranding process with EdwardsCo, it became apparent that these two options were lacking in providing a differentiator for our market. There are several Riverside Academies domestically and internationally, which provides a significant challenge with search engine results, and “Leadership” is a term that much of our competition uses in their marketing. The Board of Trustees agreed and thus approved the use of Riverside Preparatory Academy (aka Riverside Prep).

When will we start seeing the new branding/RPA?

Although we will begin sharing messaging from the rebrand immediately, you may start to notice visual changes (logos, advertising, etc.) between November and December 2022.

Will Riverside continue being a military school? Has the mission changed?

The mission of Riverside will remain the same and may be found here: https://www.riversidemilitary.com/about/mission-and-vision, and we will continue to use the military model of education just as we have since 1907.

What other changes can we expect?

In addition to the exciting additions as described in the past three Messages from the President, we will continue to improve upon programs and opportunities in accordance with our Five-Year Strategic Plan. If you would like to review the President's Messages, please check your email or contact publicrelations@riversidemilitary.com.

How will this change impact my student?

As marketing and our continuous improvement goals increase enrollment and student quality, leadership opportunities and scale will positively impact all cadets.

Will you remain an all-male academy?

Yes. With the exception of our summer programs, which have occasionally included co-ed offerings, there are no plans to be co-ed.
