STAR Student and STAR Teacher Announced
The Professional Association of Georgia Educator’s Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (PAGE STAR) program honors high school seniors with the highest SAT score in each school. Honorees must also have a grade point average in the top ten percent of their class.
On Tuesday, February 14, the Gainesville Kiwanis Club hosted a luncheon honoring students and teachers from the Hall County school systems at their 64th annual Student Teacher Achievement Recognition ceremony.
Bekhruz Turabov was named STAR Student for Riverside and chose Master Sergeant (MSgt) Dennis Bagwell as his STAR Teacher. Turabov credited Bagwell with being an exceptional teacher and a mentor to him. “MSgt Bagwell has taught me more than history; he’s taught me how to be a man,” Turabov said.
As an international student from Uzbekistan, Turabov could barely speak English when he came to Riverside three years ago. Now he reads Shakespeare for fun and even tutors Bagwell in Russian.
“Earning the PAGE Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) nomination as Riverside’s representative is evidence of Cadet Turabov’s commitment to academic excellence,” said Dean of Students Dr. Cathy Moore.
