Civil Air Patrol Cadets Advance to Regional Competition

This past weekend, the Georgia Wing Civil Air Patrol Cadet Competition was held on the campus of Riverside Prep. The Riverside Civil Air Patrol Squadron cadets placed second behind the Augusta Squadron by less than one point out of the 7,500 scorable points in the competition. First-place and second-place teams will go on to compete and represent Georgia Wing at the Southeast Regional Civil Air Patrol Cadet Competition. The first and second-place teams in the regional competition will compete in the National Cadet Competition in July of this year.

 

The Riverside Academy Cadet Squadron was formed last August and currently has approximately 20 cadets in the program. The Riverside Academy Cadet Squadron was represented by Cadet Master Sergeant Andrey Ponko, Cadet Technical Sergeant Brady Kriegel, Cadet Senior Airman Alexander Awoyale, Cadet Senior Airman Preston Roberts, Cadet Senior Airman Isaiah Simpson, and Cadet Airman First Class Marcus Clawson. 

 

Cadets competed in a range of competitions including drill and flag ceremonies, physical fitness (mile run, sit-ups, and push-ups), academic examinations, speech competitions, team leadership problems, and personal character. Each Riverside Civil Air Patrol Squadron cadet pulled his own weight in the competition, with all members of the team contributing to the Squadron’s outstanding success.

 

The Civil Air Patrol is the auxiliary of the United States Air Force. CAP’s primary missions involve emergency services, aerospace education, and cadet programs. CAP cadets have the opportunity to fly in powered aircraft (single-engine and large military aircraft) and gliders. CAP cadets have numerous growth and leadership opportunities including earning a pilot’s license, commanding cadets in their squadrons, and national and international experiences and competitions. CAP cadets increase in rank by excelling in academic, physical, leadership, and aerospace abilities. CAP cadets promote through the US Air Force rank structure.
