Carter was an American politician and businessman who represented Sumter County in the Georgia House of Representatives from January 12, 1953, until his death on July 22, 1953. Commonly known as Earl Carter, he was the father of Jimmy Carter, the 39th U.S. president from 1977 to 1981.
